Vocational/Computer Science

Hello, I am the new Career and Technical Education Teacher (CTE or "Shop Teacher"). Long story short, CTE has is the new name for the evolving curriculum that has been Vocational Education, Technical Education, and Industrial Arts. The focus for CTE classes now is to push students more into learning about career pathways hence the name change. CTE also encapsulates nearly all classes or programs that teach students about careers and career fields (Agriculture, Computer Science, Welding, Woodworking, Construction, Culinary Arts, etc.). Many of the concepts are still the same as they were 50 years ago, however students learn more about career pathways and the differences between jobs and careers. There is also an effort being put forth at the state level especially to get students into internships and placement opportunities where students can make connections and gain real life experience and skills that simply cannot be taught in the classroom. There is also the push for students to obtain industry recognized credentials such as OSHA 10, CSWA, ASE, etc.

More personally, I am from Shoshoni, WY where I spent most of my life. I graduated from Casper College with an Associates in Technical Education, and from the University of Wyoming - Casper with a Bachelors in Career and Technical Education, and a minor in Mathematics. This is my first year as a full time teacher and I am very excited to be here In Ten Sleep working with such great kids.
